| We spoke to Darren, a City of Bradenton Building Official, to get some tips for homeowners who are planning a home renovation or remodeling project in Bradenton. Darren told us that if you are adding square footage to your home in any way, even if you are simply closing in a porch, you will need an up to date (within the last 5 years) survey, an existing floor plan, and the proposed floor plan to apply for a permit. On your proposed floor plan, you will need to clearly state where you plan to put any windows and doors, as well as letters of state approval for these windows and doors. Darren pointed out that in Bradenton you need state approval for all windows and doors. However, it is possible to buy windows and doors that do not have state approval, so you will need to make sure that the ones you buy are approved so you can get your permit. You must ask for the state approval letter when you buy your windows. Finally, Darren noted that if you are doing the work yourself, and there is electrical or plumbing work involved, you will be required to hire a licensed plumber or electrician as they must get the sub permit for you |
